Junior Counselors – 17+ years old and graduating from high school

Junior Counselors eat, sleep and play with their cabin group. Each Junior Counselor is placed with a specific age group for the entire summer, typically our younger age groups.  As a Junior Counselor, you’ll have full involvement in daily activities and program of your cabin.  This is a position that will have you with your cabin much of the day; the good times, the rewarding times, the absolutely unbelievable times and the occasionally difficult times.

Positions Available:

Cabin Specialist

Cabin Specialists eat, sleep and play with their cabin group. Each Cabin Specialist is placed with a specific age group for the entire summer.  As a Cabin Specialist, you’ll have full involvement in daily activities and program of your cabin.  This is a position that will have you with your cabin much of the day; the good times, the rewarding times, the absolutely unbelievable times and the occasionally difficult times.  During certain times of the day you will not be with your cabin:  Cabin specialists for ages 9-16 will not be with their cabin group during periods 1 and 2 in the morning.  During this time their campers participate in the activities each has chosen. It is during these times that Cabin Specialist are more focused on instructing activities and less on the group dynamics of their particular cabin.

Activity Specialist

Activity Specialists instruct campers, of all ages, in a specific activity.  Activity Specialists must have a comprehensive background within their area of interest, as well as the ability to easily adapt and modify lesson plans that suit various age groups (6 – 16 years of age). Although as an Activity Specialist you will instruct children of all ages, you will live in a cabin with a specific age group of kids. When Activity Specialists are not instructing in their area of expertise, they work and travel with their cabin group and during these times act no differently from the Cabin Specialist.  We hire activity specialists in the following areas:

Activity specialist are hired to instruct in the following areas:

  • Outdoor Adventure:  High Ropes, Rock Climbing, Climbing Wall & Tree, Backpacking, Hiking and Outdoor Living Skills.
  • Aquatics: Lifeguards, Instruction in canoeing, kayaking, sailing and paddle boarding, Swimming and Water slide.
  • Performing and Creative Arts: Arts & crafts, sketching/painting, ceramics, woodworking, model rocketry, dance, music, theatre, yoga, and culinary arts.
  • Sports and Rolling Adventures – Basketball, soccer, volleyball, ultimate, lacrosse, archery, disc golf, fishing, games.
  • Biking and Mountain Boarding
  • Farming: Animal care, gardening, ice cream making
  • Equestrian: horse riding and horse care.
  • Photographer for Camp and GroPro filming instructor – this person takes photos much of the day and teaches a class on photography and film editing.   Photos and short videos are loaded to our website for viewing by families.

Expedition and Travel Coordinator

The Expedition and Travel Coordinator schedules out of camp trips, backpacking trips, white water rafting trips and our shuttle to and from Washington D.C.  The Expedition and Travel Coordinator communicates the schedule to staff and campers and then manages execution.  Much of the scheduling is done in the camp office and this individual needs to be comfortable in an office setting.  The Expedition and Travel Coordinator will also be out in camp working with staff to insure the schedule is communicated clearly to everyone at camp.  Must be at least 21 years of age, experienced driver and have a safe driving record.

Unit Leader

Unit Leaders live in a cabin with campers.  Unit Leaders know each child in their cabin division, first hand, and are closely connected to the daily routine and events of the day. The primary function of the Unit Leader is to ensure that campers are being well taken care of. This includes, but is not limited to, each camper’s physical well-being, emotional health, and social, medical, and dietary needs. 

  Applicants must posses a keen sense for young people and have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Director of Food Services

Director of Food Services:  responsible for planning and preparing meals, food purchasing and supervision of eight or more staff: assistant cooks, prep cooks, salad maker and dishwashers.  In addition to possessing the needed skills in preparing meals the director must have good supervisory and communication skills.

Support Staff

Kitchen, Laundry and Housekeeping:  Experience in particular work area is desirable.

Driver

Transportation of campers in 15 passenger vans to an from activities: lake (3 miles), rail trail (6 miles) and rock climbing (34 miles).  Must be at least 21 years of age, experienced driver and have a safe driving record.
