WHERE IS CAMP HIDDEN MEADOWS?

Camp Hidden Meadows is located on 250 acres in the Allegheny Mountains which form the Virginia-West Virginia border. North of Snowshoe Mountain resort and 20 miles west of Monterey, Virginia the camp is located in a spectacular area with easy access to some of the more notable recreational areas on the east coast. We are approximately 3.5 hours from Washington D.C., 2 hours west of Charlottesville, VA, 3.5 hours south of Pittsburgh and 4 hours north of Greensboro, NC.

HOW DO CAMPERS CHOOSE ACTIVITIES?

Small class sizes and the goal of offering some of the "familiar" along with the "spectacular" continue to make our program unique and special. All activities offered are intended to spark the creative spirit. With this in mind we do not pre-schedule camper's activities. Campers instead choose the activities in which they have the most interest within a well organized and structured program. Campers appreciate the opportunity to choose their activities and this enthusiasm translates to a quality learning environment for both instructors and campers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Mostly just yourself and a willingness to try new things. We provide all activity equipment and ask that you only bring bedding, toiletries and other personal items.

WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER DONE THESE ACTIVITIES BEFORE?

You do not need to have any previous experience to participate in our programs. We recognize that campers come with different levels of experience and understand that not every activity will be on your top ten list. We will encourage you to try a little bit of everything but there are no requirements to participate in all the activities. Activities are offered to accommodate all levels of experience and interest.

WHAT WILL I EAT?

Meals are nutritious, plentiful and fresh. We take full advantage of our dining hall, where we prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meat eaters will be happy and there is always a vegetarian option. During our backpacking expeditions we have fun cooking our meals on the trail. We are known for our creativity in the field. Using non-packaged meals some surprisingly great dishes are served while backpacking.

HOW WILL I GET THERE?

You can drive directly to camp or utilize our Washington D.C., Northern Virginia and Maryland shuttle. Campers arriving by plane will be met by our staff at the airport and utilize the camp shuttle.

WHERE DO CAMPERS COME FROM?

Campers come from all over the world. A majority of campers come from the mid-Atlantic states. Last year campers also came from Spain, France, The Netherlands, England, Ireland, Hawaii, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin and St. Thomas.

WILL MY LAUNDRY BE WASHED?

Campers' laundry will be washed once in the middle of each two-week session. Campers staying for one week will not have their laundry washed.

WHERE WILL I SLEEP AND SHOWER?

You will spend each night in a comfortable cabin unless you are participating on one of the optional backpacking expeditions. You will have the chance to shower daily and your fellow campers will be appreciative.

WHAT KIND OF MEDICAL COVERAGE DO YOU HAVE?

All seasonal staff are certified in First Aid and CPR, and our nurse is on call 24 hours per day. Emergency medical services are less than 10 minutes away. Camp staff will telephone parents or the designated emergency contact person if a camper experiences a medical condition that prevents her from participating in camp activities for more than 24 hours, or if the camper must see a physician for any reason.

CAN I STAY MORE THAN ONE SESSION?

Of course! Campers can register for as many sessions as they'd like. Campers staying for multiple sessions can join their family for the night in between sessions, or participate in activities at camp.

WHAT ARE THE CABINS LIKE?

All cabins are either new or remodeled in the past five years. Cabins have bunkbeds, electricity, and have modern bath facilities either attached or a few steps away. Cabins have two-three counselors and 8-14 campers.

WHAT MAKES YOUR CAMP DIFFERENT

Great camps exist in many places. We believe our small class sizes, staff and limited enrollment combined with our range and depth of activities standout. CHM children come to camp open minded and ready to experience new and exciting activities. A summer with Hidden Meadows is an opportunity to leave your familiar routines behind and explore the outdoor and creative world in ways so few people get the time to do.
